Portability and Data Handling

Last updated: May 2026

redu.cloud is built on open-source infrastructure components. We believe in giving customers genuine control over their data and a clear migration path away from the platform. This page explains how backups work, how data can be exported, how accounts are terminated, and our general commitment to avoiding lock-in.

1. Open Infrastructure

redu.cloud is built on OpenStack — a widely deployed open-source cloud platform. Your compute instances run standard Linux-based images. Volumes use standard block storage formats. Networks use standard virtual networking conventions. There are no proprietary image formats, proprietary APIs, or vendor-specific extensions that would prevent migration.

Where possible, redu.cloud uses open standards. We do not artificially couple your data to our platform.

2. Backups and Snapshots

redu.cloud provides snapshot and backup features you can use to protect your own data:

  • Snapshots — point-in-time captures of your instance state, stored on our infrastructure
  • Volume backups — incremental backups of your block storage volumes

Creating and maintaining backups is the customer's responsibility. redu.cloud does not automatically back up customer instance data unless you explicitly create a snapshot or backup. We recommend regular backups, especially before significant changes.

We do not guarantee recovery from hardware failure without a customer-initiated backup in place.

3. Data Export

You can export your data from redu.cloud at any time while your account is active:

  • Instance data — SSH into your instances and copy data using standard tools (rsync, scp, tar, etc.)
  • Volumes — Detach and copy volume data while instances are running, or snapshot and transfer
  • Snapshots and backups — Contact us if you need assistance exporting snapshot images for migration to another provider
  • Billing and usage data — Available in your account dashboard and downloadable via the API

If you need assistance migrating data to another provider, contact us at office@redu.cloud and we will help where we can.

4. No Lock-In Commitment

We do not charge exit fees. You can terminate your account at any time and take your data with you. We will not deliberately obstruct or complicate migration away from our platform.

Our pricing is usage-based — you pay for what you use and stop paying when you stop using it. There are no long-term lock-in contracts required to access standard services.

5. Account Termination and Data Deletion

When you terminate your account:

  • You will have a reasonable period to export any data you need before deletion proceeds
  • All running instances, volumes, snapshots, backups, and associated resources will be deleted
  • Personal data associated with your account will be deleted or anonymised in accordance with our Privacy Policy retention schedules, except where retention is required by law (e.g. tax records)

If redu.cloud terminates your account for breach of our Acceptable Use Policy, we may provide a shorter export window depending on the severity of the breach.

6. Platform Discontinuation

In the unlikely event that redu.cloud discontinues the service, we commit to:

  • Providing reasonable advance notice to all active customers
  • Giving customers adequate time to migrate their workloads
  • Assisting with data export where reasonably practicable
