OpenStack Cloud Engineer

Location: Remote/Hybrid (EU)Type: Full-time

About the role

As an OpenStack Cloud Engineer you will design, build, and operate highly available cloud infrastructure. You will work across compute, networking, and storage to deliver a reliable platform for our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy and operate OpenStack services in production (e.g., Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Keystone, Glance, Swift).
  • Build robust virtualization stacks using KVM/QEMU and libvirt.
  • Plan and implement software-defined networking (SDN) using OVS/OVN and related technologies; troubleshoot L2/L3 networking, VLAN/VXLAN overlays, routing, security groups.
  • Operate and tune cloud storage platforms (e.g., Ceph RBD/Obj, Cinder backends) for performance and reliability.
  • Automate infrastructure with Ansible; maintain infrastructure-as-code best practices.
  • Monitor, log, and capacity-plan production systems; participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
  • Collaborate with engineering and support to deliver platform features and resolve customer issues.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience operating OpenStack in production or large-scale private clouds.
  • Strong virtualization skills (KVM/QEMU, libvirt; understanding of CPU, memory, NUMA, live migration).
  • Solid SDN/networking knowledge: OVS/OVN, Neutron, VLAN/VXLAN, routing/BGP, firewalls/security groups, load balancing.
  • Cloud storage expertise: Ceph (RBD/Obj), Cinder backends, multipath/iSCSI/NVMe-oF fundamentals.
  • Linux systems engineering (Ubuntu/Debian/CentOS), shell scripting, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Automation with Ansible; Git-based workflows and CI/CD familiarity.
  • Programming/scripting in Python and/or Bash for tooling and integrations.
  • Security and hardening best practices across compute, network, and storage layers.
  • Clear communication in English; ability to document architectures and runbooks.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Kubernetes on OpenStack, or container networking/storage.
  • Operating Ceph at scale (RGW/Swift API, CRUSH maps, tuning, upgrades).
  • Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki/ELK) and alerting design.
  • Certifications: COA (OpenStack), CKA/CKAD, RHCE, or similar.
